Thomas is one of three players (also, Anderson and Cal Ripken Jr.) to win the Derby and homer in the All-Star Game. The location is great and the included breakfast is quite good. As for the beds...they are quite stiff and not comfortable at all. The bathrooms are quite good with the exception of a poorly designed shower that makes half the bathroom wet while showering.
I found it refreshing to be served by people who truly knew everything and who came across as glad i stopped in and only care about me getting the service beyond what i deserved. These were not temp help that knew nothing these were professionals who knew not just everything but were truly looking out for me. I ended up buy a very nice winter Tiger jacket and as I tried it on and decided on it they noticed a very minor blemish on the back and quickly informed me I had a hard time even seeing it & probably would have never noticed it. The thing is I said " no big deal" yet they would let me leave with it they got another one from their very advanced warehouse. You just dont get this type of service anywhere else folks and turns out it all to be a great value as well as they search the system for every possible discount they could give me.

Though Alonso raised the trophy, the highlight of the event may have come in the semifinals, when it took Guerrero three rounds of swing-offs to finally outlast Joc Pederson, 40-39. Sure, that old black-and-white show was a low-key, low-budget affair, especially when compared with the high-decibel corporate-sponsored affair that rocks our senses on ESPN. It has since become one of the Phillies' most successful and long-running programs and added a softball division for girls.
Treating the hitters like golfers, Scott, a budding actor and sports broadcaster, didn't want to talk during pitches, which were served up by two batting practice pitchers who alternated innings. Even when Scott asked seemingly rhetorical questions, the players felt compelled to say something, usually a "Yes, that's right," or "He sure is, Mark." It is, at times, unintentionally funny. As Scott explained to the two hitters before each competition, anything other than a home run was an out. The batters alternated for nine innings, hitting as many dingers as they could before accumulating three outs in an inning. If a player hit three homers in a row without making an out, he received an extra $500. While one player was taking his turn at bat, the other player would sit at the host's booth and have a brief conversation, typically unrehearsed small talk about the contest or the player's performance that season.

Scott took him up on it, speaking into the microphone sotto voce, similar to a bowling or golf announcer, whenever Mays stepped up to the plate. Sometimes when the batter hit a ball into the deep outfield, the player in the booth would comment that it would have gone for extra bases in a real game, to which Scott replied that "on Home Run Derby it's nothing but an out". Some players wore golf gloves during the show—a notable addition because the batting glove was still years away from being a normal part of a player's gear.

Aaron is invited back while Al, the runner-up, leaves with a check for $1,000, which is disappointing but I suppose still enough to panel the rec room in his basement.

A "home run" in the context of the competition, consists of hitting a baseball in fair territory out of the playing field on the fly. It differs from a home run hit during legal gameplay in that the batter is not competing against a pitcher and a defensive team attempting to make an out. In the Home Run Derby, all pitches are purposefully thrown slowly and at a closer range than the official 60 feet 6 inches (18.44 m) distance, usually by a coach behind a pitching screen. In addition, like batting practice, the batter remains in the batter's box after each swing, and does not run, nor circle the bases to score a run. For 2022, the additional bonus time requirements reverted back to two home runs of at least 440 feet. Separate from the regular home run derby, if the All-Star Game itself is tied after nine innings, a second home run derby will be held to determine the winner.

Bats that have cracks or sharp edges, or that cannot pass through the approved Little League bat ring for the appropriate division must be removed from play. Softball Rule – The bat must be a softball bat which meets Little League specifications and standards as noted in this rule.
The winners of each local competition competed in the Home Run Derby Championships held at the Phillies' new home, Veterans Stadium. As the program's popularity increased, the competition became three rounds, a local competition, a regional competition, and the Championship round held at the Vet. Beginning in 1991, the format changed to a 3-round contest. From 1991 to 2006, 8-10 players were selected and hit as many home runs as possible before reaching 10 outs in each round. The tally reset for each round, with the top four advancing to the second round, and the top two advancing to the final.
